    In recent years, young Muğla University has considerably accelerated its efforts in terms of establishing and maintaining strong international relations with universities and organisations in other countries on scientific, academic, social, and cultural levels. All necessary steps have been eagerly taken to participate in EU Education Programmes and related activities, which are believed to present great importance towards the strategic development of the University. At Muğla University, international activities are centrally coordinated by the International Relations Office directly responsible to the Rector.

Among the main duties and responsibilities of the International Relations Office are; preparation and administration of cooperation protocols with foreign universities and institutions, promotion, organisation and coordination of all activities related to European Education Programmes (Socrates, Leonardo and Youth) including the development of bilateral agreements, coordination, administration and assistance for works related to European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and Diploma Supplement (DS), coordination of the mobility activities, handling selection, administrative and registration procedures regarding students and teaching staff exchanges, following developments and disseminating information related to European Framework Programmes and providing technical assistance for researchers, participating in national and international meetings, seminars, conferences organised by National Agency and other universities or organisations, organising related seminars, conferences and meetings at faculties/schools or whole university, organising programmes for foreign delegations and visitors, and directly contributing to the works related to the international promotion of the University.

Muğla University started its activities within the framework of Erasmus Higher Education Programme throughout the institution in 2004. Consequent to the award of Erasmus University Charter, in line with the Bilateral Agreements signed with European Universities, first student and staff exchanges took place in 2004-2005 academic year. Increasing the number of bilateral agreements and the number of outgoing/incoming students and staff remain as the prior aim. Supported financially by the European Community funds, the University also embarked on a course of action to manage the implementation of European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and Diploma Supplement (DS) within the departments of the University. Students and staff can also benefit from the mobility projects within the Leonardo Programme.

Apart from the scientific and cultural cooperation protocols with various higher education institutions in such countries as Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, and USA; Muğla University has also signed many bilateral agreements, within the framework of Socrates/Erasmus Programme, with European Universities in countries like Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.

Muğla University is also an active member of International Association of Universities.
